Restaurant discounts can be valuable — but they are also among the discounts most likely to vary by location.
Do Restaurants Offer Veteran or Senior Discounts?
Yes. Many restaurants offer Veteran, military, Senior or AARP discounts, but there is no universal restaurant discount policy.
Some restaurant chains publish an official company-wide program. Others offer discounts only at participating locations, and some franchise owners determine their own policy.
That means the same restaurant brand can potentially have different discount policies in different cities or even different locations within the same city.
Why Restaurant Discounts Can Be Confusing
Different Discount Types
One restaurant may offer a Veteran discount while another provides an AARP membership discount or a special Senior menu.
Not Always Advertised
A discount may exist even when there is no sign on the door, menu or checkout screen.
Employees May Forget
The server or cashier may not mention a discount unless the customer brings it up before payment.
Offers Can Change
Restaurants can change the discount percentage, qualifying items or eligibility requirements.
ID May Be Required
Veteran, military, Senior or membership identification may need to be presented before the discount is applied.

Imagine You're Traveling
You are away from home and enter the ZIP code where you are currently staying.
The Senior Vet Discounts app will be designed to show nearby restaurants available in that area.
The restaurant does not have to offer a discount to appear in the search. The purpose of the local search is first to help you find places to eat.
If one of those restaurants also appears in the Senior Vet Discounts database, the app can display a Potential Discount indicator.

The Community Makes the App Smarter
We do not plan to maintain a massive permanent database of every restaurant location in America.
Instead, restaurant brands can be stored once in the Senior Vet Discounts database, while users report their own experiences.
Over time, users might see information such as:

Examples of Restaurant Discounts
These examples illustrate the different types of restaurant savings programs.
Outback Steakhouse Heroes Discount
Outback Steakhouse currently publishes a 10% Heroes Discount for military Veterans and service members, along with several other eligible service professions.
Valid qualifying identification is required. The discount applies to the eligible guest check subject to stated exclusions and restrictions.
Carrabba's Heroes Discount
Carrabba's Italian Grill currently publishes a 10% Heroes Discount for eligible service members and first responders.
Qualifying identification is required, and exclusions and restrictions apply.
Denny's AARP Discount
AARP currently lists a 15% discount on eligible Denny's dine-in checks and pickup orders for AARP members at participating locations.
AARP membership is required, and the offer has exclusions and a maximum discount limit.
Other AARP Restaurant Discounts
AARP currently lists restaurant savings at numerous national chains.

A Veteran discount and an AARP discount are
separate programs. A restaurant may offer one,
both or neither. Offers also may not be combined.
The App's "Show" Feature
This is the feature that addresses one of the most common reasons restaurant discounts are missed.
Before the Server Runs Your Card
A Veteran or Senior user will be able to open a simple, easy-to-read reminder screen.
For a verified Veteran, the screen may show Veteran verification status when available.
The screen does not guarantee a discount. It simply reminds the server or cashier to check the restaurant's current policy.
After You Eat, Help the Next Person
A few seconds of feedback can make the community discount information more useful.

DIFFERENT
The discount or policy was different from what was reported.
Users may also optionally record the amount they saved so the app can track their personal savings over time.
